The first squad session for the 2014/2015 Squiddies (Burnham SC RS Feva Squad) took place on the 30th and 31st October.

Archie Hainsworth, top RS Tera sailor tells of his first outing with new crew Josh:

"Firstly I would like to say how much I have enjoyed my first ever proper Feva squad training event. With some brilliant coaching from Jonathan Lewis and Flynn Davies, we learned loads and found our mistakes, then working on them non-stop until we got it right. Through this "hard core" training, we all had fun in playing pirates, and swimming a great deal.

Towards the end of both days, the wind unfortunately dropped, which stopped our training. We learnt all about the spinnaker and how to make it become second nature, gybes, and tacking. We also developed routines for our mark roundings on Friday, after being given a formula to follow, so we would do the same again each time.

I would very much like to thank the Coaches for teaching us the roles of helm and crew, as it certainly helped Josh and I (because we had a lot to work on!). I am very lucky to have a crew like Josh. He is always listening and trusts me, and I am very grateful for his patience. I am looking forward to sailing together and doing many more Feva events with you. Again, thank you.

As a new member to the squiddies, I think everyone plays fair and all race as hard as they can, which creates great competition. I hope everyone learned something over these two days, however small or large, because it is impossible not to with the truly excellent coaching. Jonathan and Flynn were great fun as ever.

I am sure that all the Feva teams there would be willing to give a HUGE thank you for not only the coaches but everyone who has had a part in organising the event, and to all the volunteers who helped in the café and around the clubhouse, making it as easy as possible for all the sailors.

As I am sure everyone else is, I am really looking forward to coming back to the next weekend in November. Again, thank you.

Archie
