Moderate breezes from the South West dominated the day at lovely Fairhaven Lake on the Fylde coast, as the last of Summer departed. This was excellent B rig weather for the RC Lasers and 10 races were run, resulting in an emphatic victory by Shaun Holbeche, with 8 first places. Rob Wheeler was clearly not sufficiently distracted by organising the event (and sponsoring the prizes) and managed to take 2nd place on a countback from Tony Wilson on the day.

This was the final event in the Northern District Summer Series which turned out to be a Masterclass by Shaun with a perfect score in 3 counting events. Top international skipper Dave Fowler could only make second in the series, with Tony Wilson from Fleetwood a well deserved third.

The main contingent came from Fleetwood and B&F Fairhaven Lasers with Adrian Stanton making the journey from Barrow in Furness.

Were the boats still working? Would there be too many crab lines out? A few of the locals decided to air and put their lasers on the water. That was if they were still working. The wind was slightly off the straight, but a descent amount of it to make sailing good. A tossup between B and C rig went for a mixed selection. Posted on 20 Jul

Sailors hone their skills from the pontoon With the current restrictions on competitive sailing restricting yachts to only 2 members of the same household and the weekend weather not being conducive to two handed sailing, members of RTYC have had to turn to other means to get their sailing fix. Series had also seen DF95 and DF65 sailing on alternate days The forecast was looking kind for us being dry, with an 18 MPH breeze and from a somewhat Westerly direction, so it was all go ahead for RC Lasers at West Lancs. This the last in the series and again a double up. Posted on 17 Mar

Practise your knowledge of the Rules but with a new dimension To my mind everyone should have a go at sailing radio controlled model yachts; not just in the pond at the RYA Dinghy Show, but on a lake when there is a 20mph breeze blowing into your face and the windward mark is 50 metres away. A twenty metre advantage at the windward mark? With Derek and John S. being away sailing elsewhere, we only had Top Laser skipper Shaun to try and beat. When you see Wild Geese emigrating in formation, usually the front runner gets tired and drops to the back of the fleet for a rest. Posted on 9 Mar

Collisions can sometimes cause the 'off' switch to be activated Again, the wind did blow but the day dawned with beautiful blue sky and wind of 15 knots, gusting 20. The direction was SW. Too much battering and late skiing reduced the fleet to 7 racers. D rig was the only option. Posted on 9 Mar

Plenty of practice of how not to nosedive After three weeks of watching storms Ciara and Dennis pass through and the boats tucked up we watched Storm Jorge approach, promising to lash UK with 70mph winds. Friday saw a possible reduced wind for Sunday and a decision was made to race. Posted on 4 Mar

Strong winds call for very small sails With rain fizzling out by 11:00 am. and after 3 weeks worth of storms, the weather was looking favourable again for a spot of Club racing. No rain and a draft of about 16 MPH from just North of West was the perfect receipt for our lake up at Fleetwood. Posted on 29 Feb

13 racers crowded the pontoon to get the best view The wind from the south provided a wonderful opportunity to extend the course and have some longer races. The triangle sausage configuration put the windward mark at the point where the starboard lay line was difficult to see. Posted on 29 Jan
