Itchenor Sailing Club is delighted to announce that on Friday 3rd October they were paid a visit by HRH the Duke of Kent. The visit was part of the Dukes presence at the Chichester Harbour Conservancy's 50th Anniversary.
HRH the Duke of Kent arrived from London by car, and was soon out on Solar Heritage enjoying a trip down to Pilsey Island in the glorious sunshine. On returning to the main pontoon, the Duke and his party, which included Susan Pyper, Lord Lieutenant of West Sussex, and the chairmen of several harbour bodies, all made their way up to the lawn, where he signed the sailing club's visitor book.
There was much talk of the Harbour, the Club and of Royal duties. Though not a sailor the Duke is President of the RNLI, and he heads the All England Tennis Club, the War Graves Commission, The Royal Institution and many other organisations.
The Itchenor team had excelled themselves with a wonderful seafood buffet and after a great lunch the party left for Midhurst where the Duke was to inspect the new offices of the South Downs National Park Authority.
We are honoured and delighted to have been able to host him and his party and our thanks go to Richard Craven of the Conservancy for inviting us to do so.
