An RYA scheme to introduce friends and family to the benefits of RYA membership has received positive feedback from both new and existing members.

Launched at the end of June the RYA the 'Refer a Friend' scheme offers new members 25% discount on the price of their chosen membership type and the referring member receives a special thank gift of either an exclusive RYA branded umbrella or five litre RYA branded dry bag from OverBoard once the friend or family member has signed up.

"Our members are the best advocates we have to spread the word about RYA membership and this scheme is our way of rewarding our loyal members for doing just that, recommending RYA membership to their friends and family", commented Conor Swift, RYA Membership Development Manager.

"Members often tell me that they have encouraged their friends and family to join the RYA so we thought it would be a good idea to introduce a scheme that rewards them for doing so."

"It's really easy to take part" commented one member, while others were impressed by the quality of the 'thank you' gifts.

Members recommending friends and families via the Refer a Friend scheme commented: 'I think they will find membership to the RYA to be very useful' and 'there is a wealth of resource available online, including many boating related discounts and you can submit your certificates for nice A4 presentation ones!' (RYA members can claim three free presentation certificates per year).

With membership at 103,000 members, the RYA is keen to encourage even more members to take advantage of the Refer a Friend scheme and inspire more people to join the association.

"As well as benefiting from unlimited access to specialist and technical advice, bespoke support from our experts, the latest news and access to countless money saving offers and discounts, every new member adds their voice in support of the work of the RYA ensuring that legislators, regulators and other authorities understand and take account of recreational boating activity.

"The more members we have, the louder our voice to act on members behalf to protect their freedom to use the water responsibly, with the minimum of restrictions. We work extremely hard to make a difference to Members' boating, but imagine what we could do with a few more members!" Conor added.

Taking advantage of the Refer a Friend scheme is simple.

• Complete the referral form including the name and email address of your friend together with a reason why they should join the RYA.
• Select your referral gift.
• We'll invite your friend to join the RYA by email.
• If your friend becomes a member, you receive your selected referral gift in the post, it's that easy.
