Barry Sea Cadets celebrate victory in National Sailing Regatta at Southport

by Nigel Vick 30 Sep 2014 14:01 BST 27-28 September 2014

Barry Sea Cadets are celebrating victory in the National Sailing Regatta held on Southport Marine Lake this weekend.

Cadet Jake Richardson from Barry took first place in the Topper Class at the end of the series of four races and was presented with the Dawson Cup by the Captain of Sea Cadets Captain Jonathan Holloway RN.

Cadet Jake Richardson said "It was really exciting to travel to Southport and compete against all those other boats. Winning was good – it's been almost 45 years since a Welsh Sailor won the Trophy"

Jake's father, a Civilian Instructor with Barry Sea Cadets said "I'm ever so proud. It shows what you can achieve with hard work and illustrates what Sea Cadets can bring out in a young person."

Barry Sea Cadets parade on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and are currently looking for volunteers who can help with delivering activities for young people.

They can be contacted by e-mail at
