Cadet Open at Parkstone Yacht Club

by Fiona Taylor 15 Sep 2014 08:22 BST 14 September 2014

Twenty-four boats including 18 visitors enjoyed glorious September weather for the annual Parkstone YC Cadet open meeting. A shifty breeze, strong tide and variations in wind speed across the course ranging from 8 to 14 knots made sailing challenging. Those sailors that were sensitive to the changing conditions, who managed to maintain their boat speed and sailed tactically were consistently at the top of the fleet although OCS results caught a few boats out.

The close and exciting racing resulted in Aliya & Aqil Jannaty (South Cerney SC) taking 1st place from Anna Morgan & Jemima Hill (Frensham Pond SC). Alex & James Colquitt of West Kirby took third from Megan Ferguson & Yasmin Sfaxi (Frensham Pond SC) who also won the Southern Traveller Trophy. Jamie & Lily Tointon finished 5th winning the first Parkstone boat trophy.

September is always a time when experienced crews transition to helming and it was clear from watching the racing today that there are many talented new sailors who appear to have made the leap with relative ease - it won't be long before many of them are working their way to the top of the fleet.

Our thanks to PRO, Jon Gorringe and his team, for great racing and all the parents that helped make this event such fun and a great success!
