Interested in sailing in St Ives Bay?

by Jonathan Thomas 7 Sep 2014 07:59 BST 7 September 2014

St Ives Sailing Club is to highlight the benefits and the facilities it has available to the local community, by running a campaign to raise awareness of the Club.

As part of this campaign we will be sending out posters to local schools and other organisations and businesses. We want to promote the fact that the club has a number of club owned boats that can be used by people that may be contemplating this sport. A great way to experience sailing for the first time without the cost of buying a boat.

St Ives Sailing Club race a handicap fleet, which means all is fair and equitable. Races on Saturdays in spring and summer, a race on Wednesdays and one race only on autumn Saturdays. They also have a regatta once a year when visiting boats are also welcome to join in. If you would rather simply enjoy a sail at your own pace in the most picturesque bay in the country instead of racing then the safety boat crew and the occasional dolphin will keep a watchful eye over you.

If you want to be involved but don't wish to sail then we also need people to help crew our safety boat or help out our race officers in the tower on Smeaton's Pier.

The Sailing Club has a small cabin and boat pen at the back of The Sloop car park in the centre of St Ives. Why not drop in, say hello and ask about sailing?
