British Contender Nationals at Felpham Sailing Club - Runners & Riders

by Iain Horlock 27 Aug 2014 08:48 BST 28-31 August 2014

This year's nationals are on the south coast of England at Felpham Sailing Club between the 28th and the 31st August. About 40 boats are expected to attend and will be sailing 8 races. Here are the sailors to watch out for!

  • Stuart Jones - Last year's national champion, and in good form during most of the season, winning almost every event. Seems to go well in all weather conditions.
    Odds: 2/1 (Fav)

  • Simon Mussell - 2nd at the World Championship last year and has shown good speed in most events this year. A heavy weather expert, but also seems to shine in the light winds.
    Odds: 3/1

  • Gary Langdown - Regaining his former speed after a break from the Contender. Recent new boat. Improving all the time and top brit at the recent Europeans.
    Odds: 3/1

  • Tim Holden - Great boat handler in all weather conditions, doesn't seem to have any weaknesses.
    Odds: 3/1

  • Neil Wilson - Hugely experienced, loves the strong weather, could easily win if the others have off days.
    Odds: 5/1

  • Martin Frary - Doesn't often miss a shift. Natural sailor and good in all conditions.
    Odds: 6/1

  • Ben Holden - Loves a good breeze, but not so much the lighter stuff. Normally mixes it with the front runners.
    Odds: 8/1

  • Iain Horlock - Improved every year at the nationals, but hasn't participated much this season. Goes well in most conditions, but struggles on the reaches. Comes with a new sail maker for 2014.
    Odds: 8/1

  • Tom Hooton - Had a great early start to the season with a race win at the worlds, but can he string a 4 day series together in all conditions? Light wind expert.
    Odds: 8/1

Other people to watch out for: Odds 10/1

  • Mike Murley
  • Richard Gimmler
  • Graham Scott
  • Adrian Smith
  • Chris Boshier
  • Peter Dives
