Why a Lennon Training Sail? The sail is ideal for the keen Laser® sailor who is permitted to use sails other than those specified by the manufacturer in club racing. It is also entirely suitable for those spending long hours on the water doing serious training.
The sail has a conventional cross cut panel layout-however it is made from a considerably heavier material (5oz) than the class legal sail (3.8oz) which gives the sail its durability. The material in the Lennon training sail is woven from high tenacity yarn as opposed to the medium tenacity material from which most Laser® training sails are made.
A recent club race winner commented "The wind was shifty and light although we did have a good F2-3 beat and I felt that the sail was driving well and pointing high".
Another also said "fantastic in light to medium winds, superb pointing whilst maintaining power..."
No sail designer in the world knows more about the Laser® rig than Mike Lennon. He worked for 27 years for Hyde Sails, one of two licensed sailmakers to the Laser® Class, and was involved in the re-design of the Laser® Radial®, the development of the 4.7 rig and, latterly, in work on the Standard sail to improve its durability. Mike has put all his experience into his design for a Laser® training sail.
In developing his LTS Mike was mindful of the two reasons why anyone would buy a training sail. The standard sails available from the manufacturer are relatively expensive and their performance falls away rapidly with age. At club level these issues are significant. Mike is offering a sail which is a match for the standard manufacturer's product in performance but which has a significantly longer life. His sail is also considerably less expensive than the class legal sails.
