GJW Direct Lark Nationals at Penzance Sailing Club - Overall

by Stuart Hydon 22 Aug 2014 21:57 BST 16-22 August 2014

Going into the last day, first place was nailed by Charlie Roome and Jez Stephens, but 2nd place was all to play with a potential 6 competitors in for the shout. Friday morning in the dinghy park was a little quieter than normal probably due to excesses of the previous evening with the "PZ" fancy dress party.

Friday race 1 (race 7) – Harry and Jemma Pynn led the fleet around the trapezoid course with Roome/Stephens pushing them hard all the way. James and Katie Ward held on to third despite challenges from Will Coxford/Chris Warburton.

Friday race 2 (race 9) – The course had been substituted to an Olympic course with a gate start. Those that started mid-way along were favoured as they picked the way up the middle playing the shifts. Stuart and Nick Hydon rounded first with an enormous lead and capitalised on this position. Emma and Matt white battled with Mike Senior and Nicky Booth who eventually pulled through. This was short lived on the second beat where Roome and Stephens picked their way through to second. Emma and Matt managed to secure third over Senior/Booth up the final beat.

Thanks go to Penzance SC for hosting a terrific championships and congratulations to Charlie and Jez as 2014 Lark Championship Winners!

Thanks to Helly Hansen for all the great prizewear!
