Snipe European Championship at Kamien Pomoroski, Poland - Day 2

19-23 August 2014
After a brutal start to the Snipe European Championships yesterday with high winds, today the competitors were treated to a much kindler and gentler day on the water. 12-15 knots across flat waters had all the teams re-energized for 3 races on Kamien Bay, although all were kept on high alert to the shifty conditions.
Brazilians Alexandre Tinoco and Bernardo Low-Beer were denied a perfect picket fence in the 3 races today sailing their worst race of an 11th in the last race. Portuguese sailors Tiago Morais and Tomas Pires de Lima stayed consistence with a 4-6-4 to remain in 2nd, now just 2 points behind the Brazilian leaders. Spanish sailors Victor Perez and Cristian Sanchez have also sailed all 4 races in top 10 to keep them in 3rd overall. Enrico Solerio and Sergio Simonetti (ITA) were sailing well until the grommet on their mainsail clew blew out, costing them the first race of the day. They finished the day with a 2-8.
Jostein Grodem and Maj Kirstin Hansen Borgen (NOR) were able to win the last race after losing a shroud and "hitting the reset button" after the previous race as Hansen Borgen said, barely making the start on the favored pin end. Damian Borras & Ivan Morena (ESP) led the entire race commenting that "the race area is very difficult; difficult to control the race and the situations, but I finished second and am very happy, and I had a nice beat and control of the fleet but at the last moment Jostein Grodem won; congratulations to them!"
Tomorrow's forecast is for less wind, a welcome for a few sailors having to bend masts back after capsizing in the shallow bay today.
Racing continues Friday and runs through Saturday with the prizegiving on August 23rd.
