GJW Direct 2024 Dinghy

GJW Direct Lark Nationals at Penzance Sailing Club - Day 2

by Charlie Roome 19 Aug 2014 14:12 BST 16-22 August 2014

Day 2 dawned very similar to day 1 with intermittent showers and bursts of sunshine. Again the rain cleared and the day concluded with sunny skies and great racing in a breeze up to 20 knots.

Order of today was line starts (instead of gates on day 1) and race three got away second time around after a general recall, and saw the fleet spread along the line. Leaders at the first mark were Parry/Johnson and Gray/Rhodes chased by Roome/Stephens. By the top of the second beat Senior/Booth had emerged from the leading pack to take the lead, which they held to the finish. Gray/Rhodes finished second with Roome/Stephens third.

Race four saw Croxford/Warburton have the legs on the fleet all around the first lap but were caught as they diverted to the finish a lap early and left Roome/Stephens to take line honours on the water. Croxford/Warburton recovered to second chased by Gray/Rhodes and Senior/Booth.

Helms and crews unions (separately) take place tonight in town and later at the club - let the carnage commence!
