Thankfully there were no serious casualties following the severe squalls that hit the GP14 World Championships on Strangford Lough, but not surprisingly, a number of boats did suffer damage as a result. Being GP14 Class Association insurance partners, as well as one of the event sponsors, Craftinsure has already been notified of a number of GPs in need of attention, with at least one which sounds to be a total loss after having broken free from a temporary mooring during the squalls.

Craftinsure's Rod Daniel will be at East Down Yacht Club during the latter part of the week, whilst son, Tom, is already participating in the event. The boat Tom is sailing suffered a torn mainsail following capsize, and another GP crewed by fellow sailors from Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club was holed in a collision.

The advice to those involved in any similar mishaps is to contact their insurers as soon as possible, taking photographs of any damage, and to get quotes for repairs or replacement items when feasible. Where safe to do so, Craftinsure is happy for owners to make temporary repairs to enable boats to continue competing in an event, but bear in mind that the cost of such repairs would not normally be covered, and insurers would expect owners to try and minimise or at least avoid enhancing any damage.
