Nineteen young sailors gathered at Wormit for the Scottish RS Tera Championships on 9th and 10th August weekend.

The tail end of Hurricane Bertha made for windy conditions on the Saturday. Ali Morrish, an RYA coach, led the kids in a morning of training and the cadets all sailed brilliantly in the strong winds practising mark roundings, starts and sailing round a course before coming ashore for lunch.

The first race was started in a force 5 which combined with an outgoing tide to make for challenging conditions. Ewan Wilson and Eilean Mauritzen from Wormit Boating Club showed their liking for the strong winds and after a good first beat maintained their lead throughout the race with Ewan finishing first and Eilean second. Ross Mauritzen, also from Wormit, and James Peart from RTYC had a close battle for third with Ross coming out on top. All competitors bravely managed the conditions.

Race 2 had to be abandoned during the start sequence due to the wind increasing. This didn't deter the keen racers who started racing, and were disappointed to be pulled in for the day!

Safety crew and sailors were relieved to find a gusty force 2 to 4 on Sunday. Four races were sailed with Ewan winning all races, but a good family battle was waged behind him with Ross Mauritzen having a great day to get second overall, with his big sister Eilean third and their cousin Josh Mauritzen getting a great fourth place. Sailors further down the fleet were given on water coaching and you could see a noticeable improvement in the general standard of the fleet as the day went on. Well done to all.

Remaining events in the series are Loch Tummel on the 13th and 14th September, and Dalgety Bay on the 4th October.
