Laser SB3 European Championships at Riva del Garda - Overall

by Event Organisers 26 Jun 2005 09:30 BST 22-25 June 2005

Congratulations and handshakes on Fraglia Terrace where, this afternoon, the Laser SB3 class awarded the title of European Champion to the Aussie Glenn Bourke with crew Alastair Mcclure & Nigel King, winning with 14 points less than the French team of Luc Videau with his crew of Olympic Laser coach Pascal Lacoste, Francois Coz and Michael Morison.

The Italian crews, Badalamenti (15th) and Bacci (26th) were sailing Laser SB3s for the first time in the regatta. “I could only climb one or two positions, at best - said Bacci - but I’m satisfied anyway, this is the first time I race on a Laser SB3 hull”. He usually sails with a Laser 4000. “Lake Garda After four day of good wind we couldn’t wish any better, we know that here it is unusual to stay ashore waiting for the wind”. Badalamenti is very happy too: “These boats don’t have a large diffusion here, but they are better than many others. It is hard to act as a ‘guinea pig’ among all these foreigners”.

Todays tenth and final race started signal at 12.30 with the black flag. The second start was clean and Luc Videau won the race ahead of the Irishman Kennedy (10th overall) and then Colin Simmonds. Next up for the Fraglia Organization is Byte the World Championship planned for Wednesday 29th to Sunday 3rd July.
