2014 Cadet Week at Waldringfield Sailing Club - Day 4

28 July - 1 August 2014
After a delay waiting for the wind the Cadets and Radials set off for a new race area downriver at the Rocks where an up and down force 2-4 awaited them.
After a long beat up through the Rocks with lots of short tacking up the shore Sarah O'Brien emerged in the lead to take the win followed by Sam Yale who just pipped his cadet crew Harry Chatterton on the downwind finish.
In the Cadet Gold Fleet it was Lucy and Cally who got the best of the first beat having swapped a couple of tacks with Daisy and Hamish and these two pulled away with Alex and Aaron also pushing hard. They finished in these positions.
The silver fleet found it quite testing in this area but nevertheless the majority made it round with Anna Wootton and Ben Whitmore winning from Alex Bell Jones and Lucy Rains and with Lucie Nunn and Natalie D'Enno in third.
After lunch the course was moved to the Tips area where the wind was pretty shifty but had some good gusts as once again sea breeze and gradient wind fought for supremacy. The Radials saw Gus Cooney winning from Sam and Josie whilst in the Cadet Gold fleet Daisy and Hamish won ahead of Alex and Aaron and Lucy and Cally. The silver fleet was Anna and Ben first from Lucie and Natalie and Alex and Lucy.
With time moving on and the spring tide on the turn a quick turnaround was needed and a tight windward leeward was set in the gap behind the island taking advantage of a decent force 3-4.
The Radials saw Josie return to winning ways, ahead of Sam in second who now leads Josie overall by 2 points going into the final race.
A win for Lucy and Cally have made them untouchable in the Cadets overall with Tom Collyer and Eden Lovesee Clark taking second and Willow and Cara third.
In the Silver fleet Alex and Lucy won from Lucie and Natalie with Tom Mythen and Jess Wright in third. Overall. 3 points separates the top three spots in the Silver Fleet with a race to go.
The evening saw the youngsters disappear down the sea wall to barbeque sausages and marsh mallows whilst the parents took on something dark and stormy at their Thursday night drinks party. One or two thick heads today I suspect.
