Keelboat sailors are invited to two great back-to-back events at Ullswater Yacht Club next month.
Competitors can take part in the 'must-do' Lord Birkett Memorial Trophy on July 5 and 6 and leave their boats at the club for the Keelboat Event on July 12 and 13, saving on both fuel costs and entry costs.
Ullswater Yacht Club has a long history of keelboat racing with Tempests, Flying Fifteens and Sportsboats such as VX Ones, SB20s and J70s. Starting this year, the club is holding an annual Keelboat Event that organisers hope will become a firm date in keelboat sailors' diaries throughout the North of England and Scotland.
This year the Tempests are using the event as their Nationals and good numbers of Flying Fifteens from clubs in the area such as Bass, Derwent and Windermere are also expected. Steve Goacher has committed to coming so the challenge is who can beat Steve at Ullswater!
Giles Passmore, experienced race officer and Flying Fifteen sailor is coming from Derwent S C to run the racing. He will be supported by Ian Priestley, the event co-ordinator and up to recently a keen Flying Fifteen sailor at Ullswater.
Five windward/leeward races are planned over the two days with water-based starts and, a final "Lake Race" over a longer course. Although the Lake Race will be a single start, results will still count within the classes as well as for just the Lake Race.
The entry form and notice of race is now available on the UYC website – www.ullswateryachtclub.org. Entries can be posted or you can enter on the Saturday morning.
UYC is on the North-east shore of the lake about two miles from Pooley Bridge on the Howtown road.
