In February 2014, Colwyn Bay took delivery of 3 RS Venture's and 3 RS CAT16's. A few months in and we went to check out how they were getting on...

Colwyn Bay Watersports, situated in North Wales at new facilities at Porth Eirias have not only a stunning location but also a whole heap of RS boats to help deliver watersports tuition, access and hire to those in Wales and North West England.

The Watersports Centre team got ahold of the RS Venture and RS CAT16 for the first time in late 2013, and were quickly hooked.

"We were testing these boats in the build up to the 2014 season, where we were looking to make a large expansion to our current fleet. We were impressed with the RS Venture and it's ultra stable platform coping well in wavy conditions, even in light airs." Said Taffy, Director of Colwyn Bay Watersports.

The RS Ventures, 3 of them - are primarily used for adult courses and private tuition, hire, and day sails, as well as sailing large numbers of kids in bad weather. They are also ideal for family hire and sail away type activity.

Also in the delivery were 3 RS CAT16's used for cat courses, adult tuition and private lessons, hire, and as a group activity. Chosen for it's versatility, "the RS CAT16 is perfect for training, yet with the spinnaker pack and trapeze fitted you can really open up the taps and get it going."

Colwyn Bay Watersports purchased their RS boats through a grant from the Coastal Communities Fund. Other funding opportunities like this are available and RS Sailing will do all they can to make a grant work - take a look at the Sport England Offers to see how far your grant could go.

Taffy concluded, "We think we have a superb fleet of boats perfect for the way we operate here in Colwyn Bay, they are stable and robust enough to be great to use for training, but performing enough to be exciting to sail."
