YHYSA and NEYTS Series at Ripon Sailing Club

by Richard Brook 1 Jun 2014 22:19 BST 31 May 2014

Yorkshire and Humber Youth Sailing Association / North East Youth Travellers Series Joint Open

Ripon SC staged the 4th event of the YHYSA series jointly with NEYTS. Despite the absence of 9 Ripon Juniors at the Tera Europeans in Holland, there was a good fleet of 18 boats in light winds.

The wind was state for the start of Race 1, though it faded towards the end of the race. Josh Cowley (Laser Radial, Ripon) led on the water, closely followed by 3 other radials. In the end though the Tera Pro of Ollie Blake (Derwent) won on handicap, with Josh 2nd and Abi Cooper (Radial, Rotherham) 3rd.

In Race 2 the wind again proved fickle with the Radials of Josh Cowley, James Moore (Derwent/Bass), Abi Cooper and Eleanor Whittaker (Ripon) trading places at the front. They couldn't shake off the Teras though, and Ollie Blake again finished 1st with Declan Graham (Tera Pro, Derwent) 2nd and Josh 3rd.

For Race 3 the wind again started steadily, though faded during the race leaving some holes. The radials again took their place at the front, with James Moore, and Abi Cooper contesting the lead by lap 2. In the end, James led over the line, but James Hewitt (Pico Sport, Teesdale/Durham School) finished 1st with James 2nd, and Oliver Kent (Tera Sport, Ripon) doing well to finish 3rd.

The final results were split between faster and slower boats, with 1st Ollie Blake (Tera Pro, Derwent), 2nd Josh Cowley (Radial, Ripon) and 3rd James Hewitt (Pico Sport, Teesdale/Durham School).
