The final day of sailing in this year's Silvers Marine Scottish Series saw the fleet take part in two races in light and tricky conditions that resulted in the overall results for all classes.
With racing now concluded there were great celebrations at the closing prize giving when the prestigious Scottish Series Overall trophy was awarded to Murray Caldwell and crew from Red Hot Poker, winner of the Sonata one design class.
In IRC Class 1 Jamie McGarry and Colin Moore's Eala of Rhu were the clear winners ending up seven points clear of Steve Cowie's Zephyr and Rod Stuart's Aurora who finished the Series tied on 20 points. But the big story of this class is that all three of Scotland's Commodore Cup boats floated to the top of the rankings to fill all the podium positions.
In IRC Class 2 John Corson in Salamander XXI took the class ahead of Robert McConnell in Fools Gold who ended the Series on 17 and Alan Jeffrey and Paul Scutt in Carmen II on 22 points.
Over in IRC Class 4 Craig Latimer and Wildebeest IV stormed to an impressive win with 14 points, Tim Ellis in T M Racing were second on 21 points while a further five points adrift was Duncan Hepplewhite in SailingFast.co.uk
While in CYCA 5 Jamie Cumming in Rogue Trader made it look like a comfortable class win, four points ahead of Richard Shellcock in Thurst on 18 and Roddy Angus in More Misjif who ended their campaign on 22.
CYCA 6 saw A Bilsland and Gus McLeod in Stargazer finish on 11 points, three points ahead of John Kent in Farr e Nuff and Alan Dunnet in Valhalla of Ashton on 20.
CYCA Class 8 Restricted Sail and Robin Ferguson in Hoodlum had a more than convincing victory in this class ahead of Chris Laverty in Sapphire on 9 points and Alastair Torbet in Spirit of May on 10 points.
CYCA Class 9 Restricted Sail was a more closely fought contest with K Allan and S Shearer in Brave winning the class on 6 points, ahead of Clive Reeves in Lyrebird on 8 and Marc Ritson in Saracen on 11.
Over in the Sigmas and one of the most fiercely fought battles with only one point separating the top three boats. Griogair Whyte in Close Encounters was victorious on 21 points with James Miller in Mayrise and Harold Hood in Odyssey II who both finished the Series on 22 points.
In the Sonata class, Murray Caldwell and Red Hot Poker and Mark Bradshaw in Mostly Harmless both ended the weekend with 17 points but the Red Hot Poker crew take the honours as their race results across the card were better. Mark Taylor in Saraband rounds off this class, in third, with 25 points.
The 40th Silvers Marine Scottish Series has given us some of the closest racing in recent years. Jamie McGarry, from Silvers Marine, has been delighted with the racing, the organisation, and on his part having a winning result!
