Enterprise Midland Area Double Chine Series at Barnt Green Sailing Club

This event, the fourth in the 2014 Enterprise Midland Area Double Chine Series sponsored by Allen Brothers, was held at Barnt Green Sailing Club on Sunday 18th May 2014.

The fourteen boat fleet which included visitors from Emberton Park, Etherow, Leigh and Lowton, Midland, Rugby and Daventry, SCYC, Sutton and South Staffs sailing clubs were treated to a glorious day with warm sunshine and a moderate Southerly wind.

In the first race current national champions Mark Lunn crewed by Steve Blackburn (Leigh and Lowton SC) led the race from start to finish. Ges Brown crewed by Julie Moore (SCYC) who was second round the first mark was later passed by Jonathan Woodward crewed by Karen Alexander (South Staffs SC) and also Paul Young crewed by Phil Harrison (Midland SC). On the last lap, Ges and Julie regained third position which they held to the finish. John Berry crewed by Neil Bawden (Etherow SC) were fifth.

After a jacket potato lunch the second race got underway. This time Ges and Julie got the best start and led around the first windward mark, from Jonathan and Karen in second and Mark and Steve in third. On the next beat Mark and Steve passed both Jonathan and Karen and Ges and Julie to take the lead which they held for another two laps. On the last lap Jonathan and Karen took the lead which they held to the finish. Mark and Steve were second with Ges and Julie again third. Behind a group of four boats were having a great battle with Martin Davies(Rugby and Daventry SC)crewed by local youngster Edward, Paul and Phil, Mike and Christine and John and Neil changing places constantly. In an exciting and very close finish, these boats finished in this order.

The third race was sailed on the same course. This time Jonathan and Karen were first around the windward mark and held the lead for one lap. Mark and Steve were close behind with Ges and Julie third. On the second lap Mark and Steve overtook Jonathan and Karen on a beat to take the lead, which they held to the finish. Ges and Julie briefly took second position with a lap to go, but was soon overtaken again by Jonathan and Karen who held out to finish second just behind Mark and Steve. Ges and Julie finished third again. Martin and Edward finished fourth after a battle throughout the race with both Mike and Christine and Paul and Phil who took fifth and six places.

Winning crew Steve Blackburn thanked everyone at Barnt Green SC for a good day's racing.
