Melges 32s at Porto Ercole

by International Melges 32 Class Association 19 May 2014 08:18 BST 16-18 May 2014

Goransson takes two bullets to win

The last day of the second stage of the 2014 Audi-Tron Sailing Series gave way to an incredible come-from-behind win for winner Richard Goransson aboard Helly Hansen Inga From Sweden, tactician Morgan Larson and crew members Warwick Fleury, Rodney Ardern, Filippo la Mantia, Marco Carpinello, Gosse de Boer and Davide Di Maio. A smashing good day on the race course afforded them two first place finishes, moving them from fourth overnight to the trophy seat on Sunday afternoon.

For Goransson, this was his first European event of 2014 and with its completion, he enjoys his first major win of the season. Earlier in the year, Goransson competed in Miami and has progressively improved with each event, surely an indication that he has his sights set on the World Championship title up for contention in Miami this coming December.

Cleaning up in second overall was Valentin Zavadnikov on Synergy GT. Zavadnikov's 2-3 day scoreline moved him up a notch from yesterday's third place standing. Placing third was Mauro Mocchegiani's F. Giacomel Audi e-Tron.

Next up for the Melges 32 fleet happens very soon - 31 May thru 1 June in Talamone.

As in the past, the start of the Audi Tron Sailing Series means the return of the Audi test drives too. Anyone can demo the A3 g-tron, S1 Sportback, A1 Sportback, SQ5 and RS6. For further details, please call 345.9585343, or email.

The Audi Tron Sailing Series has reconfirmed its innovative style with a brand new mobile app - now available on Google Play and iTunes Apple Store for free.

In addition to main sponsor Audi, the Audi Tron is supported by official sponsors Kuehne+Nagel, Torqeedo electric motors and technical partners such as the Ente Fiera di Genova, Nespresso and Olicor.
