Kingsmead Sailing Club Open Day

by Rob Fairhurst, Kingsmead SC 13 May 2014 20:41 BST 10 May 2014

Force Seven at Kingsmead

Kingsmead Sailing Club held its annual Open Day on Saturday 10th May 2014. Local visitors experienced the thrill of sailing at this popular local event. It was indeed a thrill as the wind gusted down the lake at 30mph, sometimes accompanied by a brisk shower.

Undaunted, visitors ventured out with experienced helms from the club and some asked for a second go! On stepping off the boat, one person was heard to remark it was "the most exhilarating feeling she'd ever experienced in her life".

The less brave souls opted for a trip in a power boat – usually parents watching their youngsters sail.

Our sailors were kept busy all day with the first visitors arriving soon after the start and some returning for a speedboat trip around the lake, later in the day.

The event was photographed by Jackie Lawton and you can see more pictures on her website, www.jacquelinelawtonphotography.com

Some of our visitors have already joined the club and decided to enrol on our summer training sessions, starting in June.

Don't worry, you've not missed out! The club will be running taster session throughout the summer and you are welcome to experience sailing, hopefully in more serene conditions at one of these free events: 2pm on Sat 17th May, Sun 18th, May, Sun 25th May, Wed 28th May (6.30pm), Sat 31st May, Sun 1st June, Sun 20th July, Sat 9th August and Sun 31st August.

Please call to book a place. Families welcome and any age from 8-80. We can arrange specific tasters for youth groups, schools at times to suit - call/text Rob on 07809 610313 or email

Visit www.kingsmeadsc.org.uk for more information. We are at Datchet Road, Horton, near Slough. Postcode SL3 9QE.

We also offer powerboat training courses to members and non-members.
