Itchenor Sailing Club in West Sussex has opened up the opportunity for an aspiring young journalist to cover its popular annual event - Schools Week - this summer, in June 2014.

Articles written will be published on the ISC website, in some local press and on YachtsandYachting.com. This is a fantastic opportunity for a student to start building a portfolio with the aim to begin a career in media and journalism.

Itchenor Sailing Club is a popular and thriving members club with over 1700 members based in Chichester, West Sussex. Founded in 1927, the club hosts top class amateur racing in dinghies and keelboats throughout the sailing season as well as an active training, junior and youth sailing program.

The Schools Championships at Itchenor started in 1953 and this year will see the 62nd running of the event. It has changed in format many times over the years and we like to continue to do this to keep the event up-to-date with current trends in school and youth sailing. We aim to achieve a mix of a high standard of sailing at the top end with good opportunities for sailors of all levels to compete further down the fleet, and to do so within a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Almost 100 boats competed in last year's event.

Over the last few years we have successfully extended the event to include 2 days of RS Feva racing on the Monday and Tuesday before the Fireflies and 420's training and racing on Wednesday to Friday.

Ideally we are looking for an enthusiastic and aspiring writer or journalist with an interest in sailing to cover the key races throughout the week, which runs from 23rd-27th June 2014. This is an unpaid position but will provide an excellent opportunity to build a portfolio of published work.

If you are interested in this opportunity please contact Charles Hyatt or to find out more about Schools Week please visit www.itchenorsc.co.uk/schools_week/welcome.html

Update: Alastair Pusinelli selected

Educated at Sherborne, who are regular participants, Alastair is a keen journalist working to get his foot in the door of the working world. He passed his NCTJ in December and has completed various placements including The Sunday Times and Brighton & Hove Albion. He has sailed from a young age as his grandfather was admiral of Emsworth Sailing Club. We welcome him on board and look forward to seeing his reports.
