Crewsaver Topper Inland Championships at Grafham Water Sailing Club

by Adam McElroy 11 May 2014 21:02 BST 3-4 May 2014

Over 200 boats entered the Inland Championships at Grafham Water Sailing Club for the major inland event in the Topper calendar, with more than 170 boats in the main 5.3 fleet.

All sailors arriving on Friday evening were greeted by the Commodore, Peter Saxton who was personally allocating trailer parking and camper van pitches for the weekend.

Saturdays fantastic sunshine was much appreciated after several wet & windy National Series events but with 2-3 knots of breeze only the Regatta fleet were able to launch, for some impromptu coaching and fun sessions.

The Galley kept up a steady trade in ice cream for the parents, the sailors all kept to their race diets during the indefinite postponement. (Ed's note – really ?)

Sunday brought more breeze and the PRO and mark laying team kept up a fast paced changeover between races to set and finish four races on Sunday.

The conditions appeared to favour those sailors who could combine tactical sailing with overall racing skills, in the generally light and shifting conditions.

Race performance was very close though out the day and the Twitter team were kept fully occupied reporting the mark rounding positions for the leaders of each flight.

Thankyou to the Commodore & PRO, Peter Saxton and all at GWSC for hosting an excellent event.
