3 May 2014
This Saturday (3rd of May) sees the Lightning 368's move on to Oxford SC for the second round of the 2014 Lightning368 Grand Prix Series.
Following a challenging opening round at Whitefriars a few weeks ago where big gusts were the order of the day, most have now recovered enough to take on the water of Farmoor reservoir for three races on Saturday.
Paul White, last year's series champion, made the perfect start to his 2014 campaign by winning at Whitefriars, but it was soon obvious that some serious challengers could push all the way this year. Richard Palmer (Cookham) pushed Paul particularly close and, hopefully, we'll see more of Richard over the coming months.
Young Alexander Baxter (West Oxford) also gets a special mention as his 'off-season' mantra of 'sail anything, anywhere, anytime' over the Winter paid off handsomely and saw him consistently up with the top crowd all day - a serious contender for a good result this year.
With a couple of regulars sidelined by either work or illness last time out, we should see a pretty full complement of Lightning helms at Oxford - which always provides a great place to go sailing.
So, with the first of three races due off around 11am on Saturday, why not come and check out the class and its people during the day.
Oxford SC can be found at Farmoor Reservoir, hope to see you there.
