6 April 2014
A select group of 6 Comet Sailors who had all previously won an open meeting within the class, including 3 previous National Champions where greeted with a force 3 to 4 south westerly wind.
The race officer set a course of 2 beats, 3 planning reaches and a run which lead to a number of capsizes at the gybe marks and on the run.
The first 2 races saw 5 boats finishing and the last race had only 4 finishers as the wind had increased. The positions in those races saw some close racing between the first 3 with Ian winning from Chris and Michael in that order.
The third race saw an individual recall with both Ian and Michael returning leaving Chris, Eddie and John fighting for first place in the increased wind. Chris won the battle and led the race from start to finish. Ian worked his way up to second and was catching Chris until he death rolled on the run. Eddie and John finished third and fourth after Michael decided to retire having capsized at one of the Gybe marks.
