by Franzannie Guiteau 5 Apr 2014 16:28 BST 17 May 2014

Hospice by the Sea will hold its 4th Annual Regatta and on Saturday, May 17th off the shores of Ft. Lauderdale Beach, starting at 11:00 a.m. Sailors who enter this 12-mile race will compete for Top Finisher in one of the following six classes, PHRF, ARC, ONE DESIGN, MULTIHULL, CRUISING CANVAS, and BEACH CAT. New this year is the Youth Regatta for the category of Optimist Green Fleet (sailors with little or no racing experience) and the Optimist Championship Fleet (more experience sailors) to be held at the Lauderdale Yacht Club.

The Regatta has raised funds to support hospice care for patients and families residing in Broward and Palm Beach counties since its inception in 1997. For the past three years, Holman Automotive has been the Presenting Sponsor for this event, giving their full support to Hospice by the Sea and this great event.

"Giving back to the community where we live and work has always been important to me and the Holman Family. I am a big believer in the services that hospice provides, having heard from numerous friends and co-workers, even before I experienced it first-hand with my mom," says Mindy Holman, President and CEO of the Holman Automotive Group founded in 1924.

The 2014 Hospice by the Sea Regatta, which is hosted by the Lauderdale Yacht Club, Hillsboro Inlet Sailing Club and the Gulfstream Sailing Club, is one stop on the National Hospice Regatta Alliance's racing circuit. The winner of this race will represent Hospice by the Sea next year in the Hospice Regatta National Championship. Last year's National Championship was won by Bret Moss, the sailor who won first place in the 2013 Hospice by the Sea Regatta. He will represent Hospice by the Sea in St. Petersburg, FL on April 11th through 13th.

Paula J. Alderson, President of Hospice by the Sea, Inc. states, "We are so grateful for the support of the South Florida sailing community as well as the Holman Automotive family for their dedication and commitment to this event. They have joined forces to make this an exceptional day of racing, camaraderie and festivities. The addition of the Youth Regatta exemplifies that."

The day of racing culminates with an awards ceremony, sumptuous buffet dinner and dancing at the Lauderdale Yacht Club. Tickets are $50.00 per person.
