The Royal Western Yacht Club are pleased to be pairing up with Gijon tourismo, Spain for a race from Plymouth to the beautiful northern Spanish resort. Starting on the 22nd June the event, which is for IRC rated yachts, is a fully crewed race across the Bay of Biscay finishing in the sun and hospitality of Gijon.
With entries limited to 25 boats and the high value £150.00 race fee, it's imperative those wishing to take part express an early interest. The entry fee includes free berthing in Plymouth before the start and three days in the marina at Gijon. Added to which, during their stay in Gijon the entrants will be treated to tours and entertainment.
After the official reception in the City Hall there will be regional parties, known as 'espichas', music concerts and a free pubic transport card for competitors to roam and soak up the holiday atmosphere this beautiful city has to offer.
Gijon Tourism Board Municipal Councillor, Fernado Couto Garciablanco, said: "I am sure that this sailing event will be a great success, and will contribute to bind the people whose link is the Atlantic Ocean and, I looking forward to greeting you after your hard voyage."
John Lewis, Commodore of the RWYC who competed in the last race to Gijon, commented: "Visiting Gijon is a must if you wish to cruise along the Northern Spanish coast. Our event partners, Gijon Tourism in supporting the race, have provided a unique opportunity to visit the lovely Asturias region which should not be missed. Also the very competitive entry fee of £150 has ensured the limit of twenty five boats will soon be reached."
Not only is this a fabulous chance to sail in company down the French coast and take on the challenge the Bay of Biscay normally throws up but, there are some prizes for the leaders and a great holiday on the warm and beautiful Spanish coast.
