Royal West of Scotland Amateur Boat Club Annual Regatta

Royal West of Scotland Amateur Boat Club (RWSABC) in Greenock held their annual sailing regatta on the weekend of the 4th and 5th June 2005. This incorporated the Scottish Albacore Championships.

Five races were held over the weekend commencing with a display by the red arrows and finishing with a naval display. The winds varied from a force three for the three races held on the Saturday and although the wind initially looked promising on the Sunday this dies away.

11 Albacores took part with one Albacore travelling from Middlesbrough and another from the Shetland Islands. 8 Boats participated in the Handicap fleet. This event was sponsored by Mckechnie Jess.

Scottish Albacore Championships:
1st Stuart Gibson and Gavin Berry, Clyde Cruising Club 5pts
2nd Judy Armstrong and Paul Armstrong, Scaling Dam Sailing Club
3rd Gordon Scott and Brain Inglis, Montrose Sailing Club on 15pts

Handicap Fleet:
1st Barrie Mclean, Loch Ard Sailing Club, Laser EPS 5pts
2nd David Taylor and Ian Brocket, RWSABC, Fireball 7pts
3rd Lyn Rorison and Eileen Morman, RWSABC, Wayfarer 12pts

UK National Championships goes to Nev Herbert and Lewis Fowler Well day 4 will go down as "fresh to frightening". Wind, waves and sun, not quite as much of the last of those but enough to add to the experience. The first race of the day was series race 8 and the final one for the UK Nationals. Wind dropped all day and the sea state went from predictable to sloppy At last the sun came out to greet the fleet at the committee boat with the wind as forecast at 15 to 20 knots.
