New date set for the Starcross Steamer 2014
by John Donovan, PRO 26 Feb 2014 12:05 GMT
6 April 2014
Due to the forecast of gale force winds, we had to postpone the Steamer from its original date on February 23rd. It was a tough call to make at the time, but the right one, the wind on the Sunday was so strong it was unsailable.
The new date for the Steamer is April 6th, due to the tide the first start will be earlier at 10:00 and as usual the race duration will be two and a half hours, finishing at 12:30. For those who wish to know the tide details, high water is at 11:17 (in the middle of the race) the height being 2.9m. On the day the gate to the club will be open at 7:00 and the galley for breakfast at 8:00. The briefing to competitors will be at 9:30 when the course on the water should be set. Should you wish to drop your boat off on the Saturday please let me know so that I can arrange for someone to greet you.
The entries to the Steamer are now open and must be made via the club web site (www.starcrossyc.org.uk) - click the Opens menu and select the Rescheduled Starcross Exe Sails Steamer Pursuit Race, click the green Enter button. Due to the popularity of the event we are limiting the number of entries to 100; the web site will automatically advise you if you are placed on the waiting list. Should you enter and subsequently find that you are unable to attend we would appreciate letting us know so that your entry can be given to the next person on the waiting list. The entry fee of £10.00 is payable at the Club on the day. The Sailing Instructions, Notice of Race, Handicap Numbers and Consent Forms are also available on the Entry Page; you will also be able to see a list of other competitors. Your start time will be calculated when we know the handicap of the slowest boat, if you would like me to advise you of your approximate start time let me know.
Should you be unable to make it in April, the next Steamer will be held on Sunday March 15th 2015, the first start will be at 12:00 and you will be most welcome. So make a note in your diary now.
