11th KFC Langkawi International Regatta Perdana - Day 3

On the third day of the 11th KFC Langkawi International Regatta Perdana everyone was excited about 15 knot winds. All the sailors checked over their kit to tune for more wind, and the slipway was full of sailboats and sailors as they headed out to the three race courses.

The windsurfers were in their element. Muhamad Salimi in the Techno 293 class won three of the four races today, which bumped him up to second overall behind Muhammad Rodzi. The 2.4 also enjoyed flying around in stronger winds with great battles from start to finish.

In the Laser Standard, Malaysiaʼs Olympian Khairul Affendy showed fantastic technique and scored another three bullets leaving the rest of the fleet safely behind him. Moving on to the Laser Radial womenʼs fleet, Nur Hamid took advantage of the stronger winds to secure her lead with four more bullets.

The youngest sailors in the Optimist fleet completed four more races today.Muhamad Yusof continued his charge, winning two more races, which makes five bullets out of nine, an impressive score. Yusof is five points ahead of Naquib Shahrin overall, but he has a 23rd as his discard.

The 470 and 420 classes were also flying in the strong winds, and the gusts saw these quick boats sizzling along, up on the plane. Azlan and Ismail are just two points clear of Zaki and Mazelan in the in 470 mens, while Jamil and Sallahuddin are leading the 420 womenʼs by 10 points.

The juniors in the Laser 4.7 class race with a smaller sail area. These young sailors had a great time as they completed four races. Singaporean KOH YI QIAN scored three bullets today, taking him three points clear of compatriot Reynard overall. In the women fleet Malaysian Khairunhanna Affendy is now just one point ahead of Singaporean Lim Ying.

In the Byte class ASRI BIN AZMAN is looking invincible with four race wins today, and seven out of eight bullets overall.

Day 3 was fast and furious, with the overall leaderboards taking shape, but tomorrowʼs forecast is for lighter winds, which could see some major place changes on the final day.
