Enterprise Cock of the North West Riding Spring Bank Regatta

by Martin Bradley 1 Jun 2005 10:47 BST 28-30 May 2005

On 28th – 30th May the Speed Sails sponsored Cock of the North circuit visited West Riding Sailing Club for their excellent Springbank Regatta.

The event opened with the wind howling and the most vicious gusts in which most could remember sailing. All the boats capsized at some point but it was Chris and Ali Fry who showed most control winning both races. Meanwhile, under the water, Martin Bradley dived to the bottom of the pond 3 times to dig his mast out of the mud.

Sunday was a more sedate affair but still with some excellent planing legs. Paul “Chimp” Hobson and Jeanette Hunt were out to show CotN regulars a thing or two and scoring two firsts with Tim Sadler and Richard Sault winning the other race of the day. Ges Brown with Simon Haighton, and the Fry brothers were never far behind.

On Monday when the wind eventually filled in conditions fluctuated from drifting to planing sometimes in the space of a few seconds. There was no change at the front though with Chimp and Tim scrapping it out. Tim eventually secured 1st overall by the narrowest of margins in the last race.

A superb long weekend with excellent race organisation and hospitality put on by West Riding SC.
