Controversy off the start and another win for the Bryden's
Day two of the 16ft Skiff National Championship on Sydney Harbour was full of controversy following the disqualification of the two boats that led off the start.
Belmont boats 'Empty Jets' and 'Altis Consulting' led off the leeward end of the line however both were over, recalled but did not return to the line. Each boat was later disqualified.
Manly boat 'Bryden's Lawyers' got off the line clean and by the top mark they were in the lead. They extended their lead down the first down windward leg and were at one stage in the lead by three minutes.
Bryden's lead was halved on the second downwind leg as conditions became calm around Spectacle Island and 'Fluid Building' (skippered by Clint Bowen) chased them down, narrowing the margin to 45 seconds.
Bryden's held on to win the race, followed by Fluid Building a minute behind.
Sutech Building Consultants (skippered by Daniel Turner) came in third followed by Box Rule (Daniel Watterson) and Hubble Cleaning Products (Ali Chapman).
Bryden's skipper Lee Knapton said they were fortunate enough to get pressure down the first downwind leg, giving them a good break on the rest of the fleet.
Knapton said, "We are happy with our start to the regatta but it is only early days."
Today sees two races being hosted by the club, heat 3 and heat 4. A lay-day will follow on Wednesday.
