Sigma 38 Class sponsors Garmin Hamble Winter Series Final Race Day

Sigma 38 Silver Jubilee Celebrations

To culminate the celebrations of their 25th anniversary the Sigma 38 Class is sponsoring the Garmin Hamble Winter Series final day of racing. This is a fitting tribute as the Sigma 38 is the longest serving class in the series. Despite this significant birthday, the class has consistently fielded the largest one design fleet throughout the regatta. This class is famous for "up close and personal" racing and this series has been no exception with different winners and positions swopping frequently on the race course.

Trevor Pountain, Commadore affirms "We at Hamble River Sailing Club are delighted to be included in the celebrations for the 25th Anniversary of the Sigma 38 Class Association. The class continues to support the Garmin Hamble Winter Series in good numbers and the racing is as competitive as ever. Many congratulations to the class."

The class is delighted to announce that prizes will be presented by David Thomas who designed the Sigma 38 primarily to compete in the Fastnet. David who is 81 is undoubtedly Britain's most prolific yacht designer as well as an accomplished sailor.

The Corinthian spirit of the class is exemplified by this series winners the Goodhew family run boat, Persephone. Karen and Nigel Goodhew have bought their sons up racing and with wins both inshore and offshore their pedigree is clearly demonstrated. Many owners come into the class as families, sometimes with little yacht racing experience, however with the Sigma 38 class's commitment to training; cascading knowledge from more to less experienced boats and regular tuition, there are many podium position examples of family run boats.

Following a series of outstanding racing despite races being lost to weather the class is delighted to support the Gamin Hamble Winter Series as a small gesture to recognise their hard work, commitment and professionalism that make it one of the best run series in the country.
