RYA Scotland Champion of Champions Trophy at Loch Tummel - Overall

by Matt Toynbee, RYA Scotland 20 Oct 2013 21:20 BST 19-20 October 2013

When the sailors arrived back at the club on Sunday morning they were greeted with much better conditions than promised by the forecast of the previous day. With the gentle breeze looking like it would hold the fleet launched promptly for the first start of day scheduled for ten thirty and another competitive start saw the first general recall of the day. Once they got clear the battle continued where it had left off the previous day with the two National 18s and the Osprey trying to open out enough of a gap between themselves and the rest of the fleet. Back in the main pack Bess Homer's RS200 fought hard for position going into the final day in second overall.

Overnight leaders Stuart Urquhart and crew had sealed the overall win thanks to their win in the fifth race, but the discard coming into play with the Kestrel of Stewart Murdoch leaping up the leaderboard. With some of the most consistent breezes of the weekend for the final race the race officer let the fleet stretch their legs with longer race to finish off, with even the Teras who had battled each other all weekend making it round for a second lap.

Thanks to the Loch Tummel SC for hosting the event and their volunteers for running the race management and the galley. Next year's event is provisionally set for 25th/26th October 2014.
