As the count-down to the fifteenth Jersey Regatta begins, sponsor UBS and Regatta organisers are delighted to announce the appearance of Olympic double silver medallist Ian Walker at this year's Regatta.
Ian will film parts of the action during racing on Saturday 14 September before analyzing the races and delivering a presentation at St Helier YC in the evening. His analysis will look at the boats' positions at key stages during the races and he will share the knowledge he has gained from years of world class competition with the competitors. With racing continuing the following day, sailors should not miss this exciting and rare opportunity to receive feedback from a renowned expert.
The Jersey Regatta is being held from Friday 13th to Sunday 15th September, with UBS AG in their first year as banner sponsor.
"We are looking forward to putting on a really stunning and memorable event to reflect UBS' keen support for sailing in Jersey whilst providing a lot of fun and high quality competition for local and visiting sailors," said Regatta Chairman, Bill Harris.
Organised by a committee representing the Royal Channel Islands' YC, St Helier YC and St Catherine's SC, the Jersey Regatta is the star event in the Island's sailing calendar with boats coming from the UK, France and Guernsey to pit their wits against local sailors.
Over one hundred boats competed in 2012 and the organisers are looking forward to squeezing at least as many boats into the beautiful confines of St Aubin's Bay and its adjacent waters this year. Regular attendees will find that the tried and tested Regatta formula lives on and that there are no significant changes to the programme.
The three days of the Regatta will see racing for sportsboat, cruiser/racer, dayboat, dinghy and sport-catamaran classes accompanied by receptions in the yacht clubs on the Thursday and Friday evenings. The traditional Regatta party will take place on the Saturday with a bumper prize-giving on Sunday that will see over thirty trophies being presented.
