B14 World Championships at Plerin, France - Day 2

by Mark Barnes 17 Jul 2013 10:18 BST 10-19 July 2013

Another day in Plerin, and today fog which eventually cleared at 1600. So the fleet headed out to the race track for some evening sailing.

With approximately 6 knots of wind, the fleet got away at the first start from a square line. Up the first beat it was the Anthill Mob (Tim Harrison/Johnny Ratcliffe), One More for the Bone (Guy Bancroft/Lachlan Imeneo), P&B (Ben McGrane/Roz McCrane) and Ronstan/Kingfisher Ropes (Tony Blackmore/Charlotte Jones).

Down the first run it was all about the pressure. The big winners were Seavolution 1 (Mark Barnes/Jeremy Williamson) and The Nude (Richard Reynolds/Lissa McMillan) with the prior climbing to 3rd.

As the first 2 stretched away in clean breeze a bit of a dog fight ensued between the following boats.

Over the next and final lap, the Anthill Mob pulled away from P&B with Seavolution 1 and Torq (Gerry Fermor/Leaky Fermor) having a bit of a dog fight, with Seavolution 1 holding them off at the leaward gate to take 3rd,with The Nude 5th.

As the visibility closed in, the fleet headed for shore.

After a quick derig, the fleet headed off to the La Panoramic holiday village for the French themed night which went down very well with some teams sliding home late into the night.

Day 3 and it looks like we may have another light day and hopefully get away a bit earlier. After that the breeze looks like it will be building and that will be just the medicine required by some heavier teams. The question will be, will it be to late to catch the lighter teams. All still to play for and hopefully it will go to the wire.
