SL16 World Championship in France - Preview

by Sirena Com 31 May 2013 15:45 BST 30 June - 5 July 2013

For its 6th edition, the SL16 Open World Championship will take place at the Cercle de la Voile du Pyla sur Mer. The club is proud to welcome the new participants, and is putting the final touch to the latest arrangements: parking organisation, entry forms and equipment for the races.

This flagship boat of Sirena-Voile fleet, is designed from the SL 15.5 plans, and alterations were made by Yves Loday himself. Indeed, since its creation, this boat made a name for itself as the official catamaran of the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) for the Youth/Junior Competitions. The SL 16 combines technicity and power, and it is mostly appreciated for the sensations it brings. It has just been selected by the ISAF for the next four ISAF Youth/Junior World Championships (Cyprus 2013, Portugal 2014, Malaysia 2015 and Oman 2016).

Vincent Guého, CEO of the SL 16 international class Association and Sirena-Voile have chosen the Cercle de la Voile du Pyla sur Mer as its regatta venue in the Arcachon Basin. This place offers great conditions for navigation with a stable wind and mild sea.

With a view to the upcoming Youth ISAF World Championship, in Limassol, Cyprus, from the 11th to the 20th of July 2013, the Open World Championship will give crews the opportunity to train in real conditions but above all with the foreign crews that qualified for the ISAF Young/Junior World Championship. Fifty crews are expected among which New-Zealanders, Brazilians, Belgians, Australians, Singaporeans and of course the French who have already confirmed their participation.
