The weekend of the 11/12 May saw twenty seven boats, including seven visiting English crews, contesting the Scottish Solo Championship at Prestwick Sailing Club. It was a breezy weekend with good waves and social. The event was sponsored by South Ayrshire Sports Council and Fotoboat.

In Race one the battle started between Michael Sims and Andy Davis, the Nations Champion versus the National Champion. Third was Perth's Andy Hutchison pipping Kevan Gibb on the line. In Race two, with a building sea, light weight Andy Tunnicliffe broke away at the start and led the fleet with Andy Davis chasing him all the way, with Kevan Gibb in third.

Race three started in more wind and a smaller fleet as the weather took its toll. Andy Davis won with Michael Sims coming through the fleet to take second, Andy Tunnicliffe was third and Kevan Gibb fourth.

Sunday dawned still overcast with the look of lighter weather but once out on the race course the wind had swung slightly to the south. The tide came more into play and the wind built as the morning went on. In Race four Andy Davis came out of the start in good shape and led from start to finish with Gibb in second and Sims in third. The championship contest was getting tight between the two Champions, Sims and Davis. Race five started, and Sims had to stamp his authority on the fleet and proceeded to fight for the lead with Davis. Davis gave the fight away by touching the windward mark in the tide, but hung on for a second followed by Gibb in third while Chris Brown making a comeback appearance rounded off the top four.

In Race six, Gibb went hard left up the beat and rounded the windward mark first by some miles, tidal sailing. He was followed home by Sims and Davis. The result gave Davis the Championship by just a single point from Sims.

A big thanks to Prestwick Sailing Club and to Scottish Sailing for their continued support of Scotland's leading adult class.
