Robert Kentgens leads after 4 races

Seven nations and 30 crews are taking part in the European Springtime Yngling Championships at Fraglia Vela Riva on Lake Garda, Trentino.

Because of scarce winds on the first day, only one race was held despite the efforts of the on-water technical crew presided over by Fausto Maroni and coordinated by the regatta committee, in setting up the race course according to the various wind changes.

On the second day, however, the decision to race in the morning with the northern wind paid off. Three races were held one after the other, the first with the north wind and the other two with the wind from the south which had picked up earlier than usual with an intensity of just 8 knots.

The Dutch crew led by Robert Kentgens (with De Leeuw and Kamstra), finished in tenth place after the first race but today made up ground with two thirds and a fifth to push them into a 4 point lead over fellow nationals Otte – Werf and De Uries.

Last year's winners, Maarten, Smolders and Berens, are currently in third place and are coming on strong with an 11-8-6 and a fine first place.

The Championship seems quite well balanced and with 4 races still to go it's possible that the standings will change by Saturday. Today's first race and second overall was won by Deen Jan of The Netherlands.

Tomorrow, 3rd May the first warning signal will be given at 13:00.

Results after Day 2: (four races)
