Banbury Sailing Club to hold its first ever Optimist Open

by Paula Irish 11 Apr 2013 08:32 BST 28 April 2013

Banbury Sailing Club will be hosting its first ever Optimist open meeting on Saturday, April 27. With a growing fleet of Optimists at Banbury, a strong entry is expected from local sailors, clubs across the Midlands and further afield.

Banbury SC is part of the Midland Optimist Team network of parents and clubs and the open meeting follows a number of winter training days in the region.

Open meeting organiser Tim Matthews said: 'Banbury is a great place to sail and with Spring finally starting to emerge, we're looking forward to extending a warm welcome to visiting Optimist sailors.

'It will be an opportunity for those who race all through the year to test their skills, while for those who have been training or taking a break over winter, it will be a great way for them to start their racing season.'

Four races will be held during the day with three to count. Registration is from 8.30am with the first race at 10.30am.

The sailing club is located at Boddington Reservoir, seven miles north of Banbury, just in Northamptonshire but also close to the borders of Oxfordshire and Warwickshire.

For further information and entry visit the IOCA website www.optimistsailing.org.uk, or www.banburysailing.org.uk, or email Tim Matthews at
