Staff at marine insurance provider, Towergate Insurance, recently gained Powerboat Level 2 and Personal Watercraft RYA Proficiency Certificates. The firm regularly undertakes training sessions in order to build employees' knowledge and experience.
Four people, working in new business, customer services and marketing, undertook a two-day course at the Menai Watersports Centre, Caernarfon, learning; launching and recovery, boat handling, high speed manoeuvres, collision regulations, securing to a buoy, anchoring, leaving and coming alongside and how to deal with 'man overboard'.
Eight members of staff in new business, claims and customer service spent a day at Kingsbury Jet Bike Centre, Sutton Coldfield, finding out about; launching, handling and recovery skills, collision avoidance, orientation at sea, passage planning and decision making, high and low speed riding skills and essential safety information.
Towergate also arranged a 'hands-on' training session, teaching; narrowboat preparation, maintenance and lock navigation, courtesy of Midway Boats, Nantwich, and Surveyor Mike Fox put staff through their paces at Bluewater Marina, Pwllheli, where they were learnt; differing types of craft, rigging, security devices and marina hazards. They also visited a brokerage to look over high performance speed boats and their parts.
Towergate Insurance (marine) Customer Services Executive, Damian Doorbar, comments: "We advocate our customers undertake training courses, so thought it important we do the same with our staff. For those who don't regularly take part in water sports or sail, these sessions help enormously when talking to customers as they put the theory into practise."
