Snow comes uninvited on the second weekend
Days of races during this 29th edition of the Primo Cup – Trophée Credit Suisse follow on and look the same... For this second day of regattas, starts were given in stable conditions. The early starts of the morning saw spring sailing conditions, later replaced by snow falls and wind gusts reaching up to 20 - 25 knots of wind towards the end of the race, having challenged the nerves and physical skills of the racing crews on their last tack.
Two races were completed today, allowing the Race Committee to totalise 5 in total for all the one-design series (Smeralda 888s, SB20s and J/70s) and 4 for the IRCs.
Today's races
In IRCs, the early start yet corrected by Checkmate costs him to lose his leadership, behind Eleuthera's crew, helmed by Marc Pajot. With equal points tonight, the final races will see the real winner.
Memorable battles in SB20s between the first three challengers of this series, for only two points keep apart Black Magic, helmed by the Class's President Edward Russo and assisted by Sébastien Col and Gilles Favennec, from the third, British born John Pollard, whilst the Bernaz family holds the second place.
Supremacy is imposed by Fremita d'Arja in J/70 in front of his fellow countryman crew of Spin One; Italians are consolidating the existing gap with Henry Lloyd's Dutch crew.
Lonesome crusaders, the Monaco crew of Socca Team, helmed by Guido Miani, wins four races out of the five started, losing the fourth one to Gryphon on the last downwind leg. Helmed by Peter Grut and lead by François Brennac, the YCM Society Members win the first race of the day and finish second in the general provisory ranking in front of Mascalzone Latino's Italian crew.
Tomorrow, race starts at 10.00am and Prize Giving is scheduled at 5.30pm. Let's note that the Primo Cup – Trophée Credit Suisse is unique in its prize giving by drawing a gold ingot, offered by Credit Suisse, main partner of this event as well as Slam Advanced Technology Sportswear awarded to the first three crews in each series.
