Thirteen boars attend the first Lightning event of the season © Danny Williams
Thirteen boats attended the first Lightning event of the season in bright sunshine with a fresh gusty wind from the east. The first race saw Louis Saunders of Combes SC take an early lead. He was never challenged and won by a comfortable margin with Calvin Merry second David Tiney third and the veteran Doug Pressey fourth all of Hillingdon.
In the second race David was first to the windward mark and established an early lead, but by the end of the first lap he had been overhauled by Louis who was sailing exceptionally well after a poor start. The final three places were the same as the first race, Louis first, Calvin second and David third but with Carole Smith coming fourth.
The third and final race saw David again take an early lead with Calvin in close pursuit and the pack not far behind. This was a more closely contested race but David maintained his lead to win, followed by Calvin, then Louise and Carole again in fourth place.
A very enjoyable day’s racing with a clear winner Louise Saunders of Combes SC with David Tiney second and Calvin Merry third.
