Enterprise National Championships at Tenby Sailing Club - Days 4 & 5

by Paula Southworth 13 Sep 2012 22:52 BST 11-17 August 2012

Sponsors: Noble Marine, Rondar Raceboats and Brewin Dolphin

The last report on this Championship showed the results up to race 5. There were 9 races programmed for this event but unfortunately, due to extremely gusty and wet weather conditions, race 5 on day 3 was to be the last race of the Championship. The remainder of the event was to be enjoyed off the water.

The Socials (which have become a notable feature of the Enterprise events) then took precedence. Wednesday was a lay day (also not a good sailing day) – some competitors had planned excursions others just enjoyed Tenby and the hospitality of Tenby SC, The Galley and Bar. Thursday evening was a themed Fancy Dress Evening (The Jubilee) in Tenby SC with the supporting band called Elephant Gerald. There were some very creative costumes and the band was enjoyed by all. Team Penarth YC arrived as London Underground Stations, visiting aspiring team GB Olympians were also in attendance and the Union Jack was worn in various formats by most of the party goers.

Friday the the social programme read: "Championship Prizegiving and Sponsors Night – BREWIN DOLPHIN invites All Championship competitors to their PRIZEGIVING SUPPER - 7 30 pm. Free to competitors thanks to Brewin Dolphin. What you have all been waiting for, the PRIZE DRAW for a new RONDAR EPOXY MARK III ENTERPRISE – Sponsored by RONDAR RACEBOATS, NORTH SAILS, SUPER SPARS AND ALLEN."

It was truly a very enjoyable evening. The supper prepared by Tenby SC galley and sponsored by Brewin Dolphin was excellent, followed by the prizegiving – our Enterprise national champions are Nick Craig and James Stewart from Frensham Pond SC. Nick is also representing the Enterprise Association in The Endeavour Trophy.

Our ladies national champion is Alice Allen, crewed by Sharky, from Bristol Corinthian YC.

Prize Draw

This involved competitors in Enterprise open meetings from The Scottish Area Championship at the end of August 2011 through to 2012 up to and including the 2012 Nationals at Tenby. These competitors had a chance to win a brand new Rondar Enterprise, in an exciting prize draw, which was organised by the National Enterprise Association and Rondar Raceboats. All Association members had to do to try and win was to compete in at least one open meeting between the nominated dates that were on the official calendar posted on the fixtures page of the Enterprise Association UK and most importantly must be a member of the Enterprise Association. Prize Draw Secretary, Tim Finch awarded raffle tickets per race per member.

Presented with the rudder from his new boat by Paul Young of Rondar Raceboats, winner John Berry will be able to help input to the finishing touches of his new boat – what a wonderful prize. It was great that the winner was actually at the Nationals event.
