Help save Melton Mowbray Sailing Club

by Melton Mowbray SC 11 Sep 2012 21:51 BST

Melton Mowbray Sailing Club was formed in 1970 to provide sailing on a lake in a disused quarry. Considerable development has taken place since then and the club stands as it is today. The area now forms a water park with attractively landscaped banks surrounding 45 acres of pleasant sailing water. The present Clubhouse was purpose built in 1986 mainly through public funding.

On the 20th August, after 42 years of successful sailing & activities, the club was issued with, via email, with an immediate Stop Sailing order and 14 days notice to quit the lakes. As devastating as this is we recognise the value of the club in the area and are trying to ensure that Melton Mowbray Sailing Club continues to play an important role for members, the local communities, schools and other groups, especially in this, the year of the Olympic Legacy.

A petition has been created to demonstrate there is support for us and we thank you for helping us in our plight - please sign here.
