Before the beginning of the finals on Saturday, we already know the
name of both 2012 World Champion countries: it will be Australia and
Brazil!
Today, under blazing sun and 8 knots of wind, Australia in
the male competition had a great performance by qualifying both
Australian teams or the big final thanks to its victories in their
semi-finals against Great Britain and Denmark.
Both Brazilian crews
also dominated the female competition and won their ticket for the
final by winning their matches against France ( 2-1 ) and Switzerland
( 2-0 ).
On Saturday, will determine which Australian and Brazilian
teams will be the sixth male university world champions and the first
university female world champions for match racing.
"Last University World Championships in Greece we won silver and
Bronze. Australia's Lucinda Whitty (Olympic silver medalist) was part
of the Australian team in Greece. It is now brilliant to see the
Australian team do one better and confirm Gold and silver medals at
France. We really look forward to hosting the University Match Racing
championships in RPAYc to honour our new world championship sailors."
