Lymington's Olympic Gold Medallist and World Champion Sailor Ben Ainslie will be greeted and cheered by thousands of Lymingtonians when he arrives in the town next Tuesday aboard an open-top bus kindly supplied by Alison Barnes and her team from the National Parks Authority. Ben who amongst a long list of achievements has won 5 Olympic medals and 10 World Championship titles for sailing is recognised by some as the greatest British sailor of all time. He is currently participating in the America's Cup World Series, for Team J.P. Morgan BAR.

"The support I have received from the people of Lymington over the years has been nothing short of amazing. The open top bus in tour in Lymington will be a great way to show my appreciation and also gives me the chance to say hello to many friendly faces". Ben Ainslie

Popular with local yachtsmen and women, he is a member of the Royal Lymington Yacht Club and is a local hero and legend. The bus tour will start at Lymington Hospital Car Park in Ampress Park at 5.15pm will and proceed down Southampton Road, along Queen Street, St Thomas's Street and High Street before dropping him off to attend a private function in his honour.

Mayor of Lymington Cllr Jacqui England was delighted that Ben had managed to take time off from his busy America's Cup schedule to visit the town and give locals the opportunity to celebrate his achievements. She said "We are all so proud of Ben and really pleased that he has managed to arrange this visit. He is an inspiration to the town and we will be recognising him formally when he has more time at his disposal. The Council has already discussed offering Ben the Freedom of Lymington and we hope he will accept".
