The Waples Wines Series has now passed the halfway mark for the season and is producing a more open competition than seen for the last few years. It is not all sailing however as this year competitors at Bassenthwaite had a great Saturday night that included a wine tasting courtesy of the sponsor.
The first event of the series, at Bassenthwaite has now been followed by leg 2 at Ogston Sailing Club near Chesterfield and leg 3 at Burton Sailing Club near Derby. To date there have been 24 competitors in the series representing a total of 7 clubs.
At present lying 1st overall in the open category are Jon and Julia Ward from Ogston Sailing Club on 4 points closely followed by Simon Longstaff and Jon Denwood from Bassenthwaite Sailing Club on 6 points. In the classic and silver categories all is still to play for.
The finale of the series takes place at Dovestone Sailing Club on 29/30 September where the winners will be decided. As always Dovestone will put on a great event that will include one of the famous “Waples Wine tastings” greatly enjoyed by all at Bassenthwaite earlier in the season followed by the final series prize giving.
